Less than 24 hours after posting that I signed up for lifelock I received an email from a woman Kristin who wanted to share her own opinion Identity Theft Protection services that they offer.

While I appreciate the fact that people have reported they have had Lifelock for a period of time and they have yet to get the notice that someone is trying to open credit in their name, that’s wonderful! It’s also really interesting that the CEO has the guts to put his social security number out there for all the identity thieves to see and although he may not yet have become a victim of identity theft (credit wise).

She then goes on to talk about founder of LifeLock and the legal issues he has faced

I also would not be comfortable signing on with a company that the CEO himself was an identity thief! I have heard this and read about it, it’s no wonder he stepped down but the words out, and now hearing that they may not be able to back their million dollar guarantee, hmm sounds fishy and they’ve only been in business a short time, less than 5 years.

There has been a ton of talk about their CEO and his estranged and perhaps disturbing history. He may be an identity thief I really don’t know. This is something for the legal system to decide, not the media. BUT I do feel that there is a lot of weight behind the idea that it takes a thief to catch a thief. The guy may have inside knowledge of how to do it and now he is using that experience to make sure that it does not happen to me. It is like a reformed hacker that becomes a security expert. It does happen, and when it does – they have information and tools that no one else has even thought of.

She then continues to offer me her suggestions:

Check out Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc and the Identity Theft Shield, they have been in business for over 35 years. Thank you for your time, I hope this opened a few eyes and got some of you thinking, there are other areas of identity theft and there is no 100% guarantee, and monitoring alone will not help fix the problem once it happens, you need restoration services and Identity Theft Shield offers you that!

I want to say thank you to Krisin for giving me such valuable information about alternative services. I will check out the other guys. The fact that they provide restoration services is HUGE. You have no idea how long it takes to contact everyone to clear up your name.
