This is a story about identity theft and how I discovered my identity had been stolen. Some of the headaches, the endless paperwork and the things I wished I would have known years ago. I am determined to get back to a FICO score above 720

Notification of Credit Lock

Posted by Kevin

I go the every 90 days email from Lifelock that my credit file is still protected today… Here is a copy of their short and sweet message:

Fraud Alerts Requested

Dear Kevin,

An important component of our protection services and guarantee is the submission of fraud alerts, to the credit bureaus, on your behalf. Per your instructions, we have requested your 90-day fraud alerts. As they expire, we will continue to request the alerts until you tell us that you no longer have a reason to need them.

You should expect the three credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax and TransUnion) to mail you a confirmation of this action, usually within the next four to six weeks, informing you that your alerts have been set. You will continue to receive similar confirmations every 90-days, following our resubmission of fraud alerts, as long as you are a LifeLock member.  If you do not receive any or all of these letters within four to six weeks of this email, please contact us right away.

Please also note that these letters from the credit bureaus will also contain instructions for you to order your credit reports. Please disregard these instructions as we will separately request your credit reports once a year.

Please remember, if you need to make changes to your account, you may do so via our Member Services portal at www.lifelock.com/mylifelock.

If you need additional support, please e-mail us at member.services@lifelock.com.  Alternatively you may call us at 1-800-LIFELOCK (1-800-543-3562). We’re here 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Thank you for your membership.

Sincerely,

LifeLock Member Services

Credit Problems – Buying a New Car

Posted by Kevin

I know it has been a while since I posted. Life has been really hectic lately, I have been struggling with job issues and with credit issues.

My trusty 1998 Blue Ford Explorer with 189,144 miles just died on me last week. I got a blinking check engine light and I then stalled on the freeway. Thankfully I put the car in neutral and was able to restart it but it really gave me a huge scare.

I have a history of letting my life and issues in my life become so painful that they confront me and usually slap me in the face… I know I should just take the easy road, listen to the universe and handle things before they blow up. But I am not a quick learner :)

In the two seconds that it took between the car stalling and me getting it started again – I prayed to G-D and said “If you start this up again, I will get a new car” – just don’t let this piece of junk become a worthless piece of junk.

So needless to say the car started and I actually drove down to the Scion dealership here in San Diego and worked with an amazing guy Rich. (If you hate buying cars like I do – you will LOVE Scion) These guys are amazing!

I had test driven a friends xB a while back and I loved it. It was right in my price point less than 20k and it had great gas mileage. They have the new EPA standards but I am getting about 25 miles right now, literally 11 miles per gallon more than the explorer. LOVING IT.

Ok, but that is not the story. Scion runs my credit with all 3 agencies and on the top of the report it says in bold something to the effect that my credit is locked, that I have my credit file frozen and they need to call before giving me credit. I was little surprised but it did give them the credit scores from all 3 agencies. My highest was a 582 – which just blows! I remember having a 720+ just a few years ago.

I am not going to whine. I applied for the loan, I got a call from Toyota (Scion Parent Company) and I had to answer a few security questions about my personal details. Took less than an hour, I did not have to notify Lifelock to do anything and I was absolutely impressed with the way they handled it!

I am going to see if I can get a copy of the report to paste on the site. So am the proud owner of a 2008 Silver Scion with 12 miles :-0

I know I am a little older than the typical person at 33 but I still feel right at home with the car. I drove out to Palm Springs and I was amazed at just how well it handles.

Landmark Education

Posted by Kevin

In December I enrolled in a self help, get your shit in order and figure out who you can be seminar called the Landmark Forum. A friend of mine David at the office (he has since been fired, hummmm… Does this really work?) told me about it back in March of last year but I really was not interested in it.

I then met up with a client coincidentally another David this one David S. So David S is an ultra successful serial entrepreneur who has made millions capitalizing on different ideas. From jumping into the ever popular mortgage race to product sales and has build a number of successful businesses. David from the office was a bit of a crack-pot but David S is in my view a successful guy.

New Relationship

Posted by Kevin

So, I have a girlfriend now and I am super excited.  It has been a while since my divorce but I am really happy to have moved way past that.

Her name is Lisa, and she is a Graduate Student at SDSU and she is amazing.  If I were to compare this relationship to my marriage of 4 years you would be blown away.

She is passionate, intelligent and makes me want to work harder.  She is a sharp 180 from my ex-wife.  Not perfect, just different.  But I am so happy at this point.   Happy like I could not have imagined just three months ago.

She is Jewish like me and we share so many commonalities but at the same time we are really different and I am loving it.  I met the folks, I think they are worried that I am a little older than her, from their perspective ten years is a really big difference.

All I know about age is that I don’t feel thirty three (I do act it) but she brings out all types of energy and passion that I did not think that I had in me any more. She has awoken the beast

I am enjoying having lifelock so much that I have searched google for some other Lifelock Coupon Codes that I would like to share. My favorite right now is the 90 Days Free.  It gives you a chance to review the service and figure out if you like it before you make a huge commitment.

Experian Notification of Identity Theft Protection

Posted by Kevin

The third one is in, Experian has acknowledged that there is now a fraud alert on my account. It seems that they were actually the first to respond but with some mail delays they were the last one to be recived.

At this point I am feeling pretty good about this service… I like seeing the results and these little confirmations make me happy :-)

TransUnion Notification of Identity Fraud Alert

I am impressed! Just a few days after my letter from Equifax I received the confirmation from TransUnion about the Fraud Altert that they have placed on my account.

Yes, I know I could have done this all myself but for $99 bucks per user with a Lifelock Discount Code why would I bother?

These guys rock!
